Our story · since 2021
Three products, one reactive face, no shortcuts.
Lumo isn't a lab or a "wellness collective". It's Erin, a bench near Fraser Street, and a scale that's seen better days.
It started because nothing simple worked.
For years Erin MacLeod's skin reacted to almost everything: fragranced creams, ten-step routines, "brightening" serums that left her cheeks stinging. In 2020, stuck at home like everyone else, she started reading ingredient lists properly and cutting them down.
By spring 2021 she was mixing tiny batches in her apartment kitchen off Fraser Street, testing on her own skin first and roping in a few patient friends. The first cleanser took eleven tries. The eleventh one didn't sting.
Lumo grew out of those kitchen batches. It's still small on purpose. We'd rather make three things we stand behind than a shelf of products we can't explain.
How it went
The short version.
Erin starts stripping her routine down to almost nothing after a bad reaction to a "barrier repair" cream. Reads a lot of INCI lists.
First hand-mixed batches in the apartment kitchen. The cleanser and a rough serum go out to eight friends across Vancouver for honest feedback.
Lumo opens a proper shared studio space and starts shipping across Canada. The moisturizer joins the line after a wet, dry-skinned winter.
Batch sizes double but stay small. We commit to numbered batches and printed fill dates so customers can check freshness.
Still three products. Still mixed by Erin. Still answering the email address ourselves.
